Products for Space Shuttle Simulators

Scientific Solutions has been providing products for NASA Space Shuttle Orbiter simulators since the mid 1980s. These products are used to provide user control and to monitor activities during a simulation session. Using Scientific Solutions products to monitor user control actions and communicate these actions to the simulation software allows the software the ability to create various missions with a multitude of annomlies. These annomolies help to re-inforce ideas; provide a more realistic simulation; and allow the "astronaunts-in-training" to experience the process of dealing with problems and un-expected situations as they arise. A more realistic simulation, is a more lasting experience!

Early Orbiter Simulators used the BaseBoard / ISA product - generally having a number of these boards installed in several computers. These BaseBoard / ISA products use Opto-Isolation INPUT or OUTPUT modules depending upon their function. Each BaseBoard / ISA product provides up to 96 digital I/O control signals. It is not un-common to have several BaseBoard / ISA products in operation on a single Orbiter Simulator.

Recently, Orbiter Simulators have used the BaseBoard / PCI product. This is a PCI implementation that is compatible with more modern computer systems than the older ISA version. The BaseBoard / PCI products remain 100% compatible with the BaseBoard / ISA products. This means you can literally unplug your existing cables from the BaseBoard / ISA and plug them into newer computers using the BaseBoard / PCI cards - and your existing simulation software will run without any modificaiton. No re-wiring required. No new software required.

Scientific Solutions also provides on-site wiring and configuration for Oriber simulators. We will travel to your location and perform the necessary tasks. Scientific Solutions performed an on-site upgrade for the Discovery Orbiter located at The NASA Astronaut Hall of Fame in Titusville, Florida. In addition to upgrading the installation from the BaseBoard / ISA to the BaseBoard / PCI products, this installation also entailed re-wiring exsiting, and adding additional, controls.
